So here's the truth. None of us has it all right. Even those who are put on a pedestal (or jump up on one themselves), as well as those who are very humble. Our strong advice here, is for anyone who is still being spoon-fed by someone else...to grow up and dig in yourself. Test Everything! / Examine Yourself!
The common practice of modern-day, western "christians", is to go to "church" and absorb the little that they get from the pulpit, the "pastor", their friends or their family traditions - and blindly take it as the truth. Well - some of it might be true, but you can be sure that some of it is probably not. And so - how do you know? Study for yourself and believe that when Yashua promised us that His holy spirit would guide us into all truth, that it will. But we must do our part. His spirit is not a "person" that lives in our brain, deciding whether or not "he" will change your thoughts, words and actions. Those choices are your responsibility. What the spirit of Yashua will do, is bring the mind of Father and His Son to your mind. Their mind, character, attributes and desires are made known through the scriptures. So read them, study them and obey them. Then the spirit of Yahua and Yashua will truly be inside of you. It will conform your will/mind/thoughts/behavior to those of the Father and His son and their spirit (mind), will truly be a real and living part of who you are.
If you embrace taking responsibility for your own walk of faith, study and practice as a disciple of Yashua, then you will need to do what a disciple does. LEARN (Hear) from the Master and PRACTICE (Obey) what you learn. Get rid of all that you brought with you to the table and listen ONLY to his word. And then you will get the real truth. It may surprise you too! Once you get some skill in your study and practice, you will become more proficient in assessing what is true and what is not - eating the meat and spitting out the bones. This is done by steeping yourself in the Word, challenging your own suppositions, and long held beliefs that do not line up with scripture and making the proper decisions for your own life to obey Father and be set apart for Him.
The point here is to encourage you to learn directly from scriptures, so that you can learn from many sources. When you stay attached to only one source of teaching [like a church, pastor or single group], you will become indoctrinated into that singular message alone. It limits you and the spirit of our Father will allow you to stay where you have camped. Don't just ignore or discard the teachings that your friends, pastor or whoever tell you are heretical or crazy. These labels are often applied out of jealousy, fear or even more nefarious reasons...such as a need to control others, or worse. There is much to learn from those who have walked a different journey than ourselves. There is much we will miss out on learning, if we limit our options out of fear, ignorance or tradition. Of course there will be things that are not worth retaining and other things that are. This is why we MUST be able to make judgements for ourselves, as we get more proficient in measuring the truth against Father's word and not what other people tell us.
American christianity is accustomed to simply following the "party/denominational line". But true disciples of Yashua cannot remain babies. Time is short and our King is coming. It's time to grow up. Because anyone who remains in a bubble of limited knowledge (ie: gets all of their understanding from one person or group), OR willingly and knowingly refuses to act on what they are learning, may possibly hear our King say the words that should bring a chill of terror to anyone in their hearing; "I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness."
Let's all strive to hear, "...well done, good and faithful servant!"
